Improving Your Office’s Performance


The traditional office life is filled with a million little wasted moments that have become a part of the experience. Often times employees, when not properly motivated, will do as little as humanly possible. This is very often not due to the fault of the employee, but is often because of poor leadership, guidance, and management.

You don’t have to put a chain around your employees to get them to work, but there are ways that you can improve efficiency while increasing morale. The two don’t have to be mutually exclusive and there are ways to meet the needs of the company while improving productivity and employee satisfaction at the same time.

When In Doubt, Ask:

Office dynamics are a creature all to itself, and, as often is the case, bad relations are a result of poor communication skills. Either it’s because a manager doesn’t know what’s going on or because the employee feels like they’re not in the loop. People like to feel as though they have some part or say in the decision making process, and when changes are occurring in the office without any explanation, your workers could feel as though they’ve been left out to dry.

Solve this issue by having a weekly, or bi-weekly, sit down to discuss the state of affairs and where the company is headed. This gives your workers perspective and understanding on the decisions that are being made and why. Sit down with your employees and just ask them how they feel things are going. Doing this can often lead to much better office relationships and improve work production.

Up-To-Date Systems

Sometimes companies will be working with outdated software and poor computing technology then wonder why they’re not outperforming the competition. There isn’t constant dramatic evolution in the software that we use, but business is like anything else. There are constantly newer software programs and better computing technology that enables people to work more efficiently. Updating office systems can be expensive and be seen as cost prohibitive, but looking at ways to update the way your company runs can often prove an effective investment and give your workers the tools to do the job better and smarter.

Improved Training

Companies often try to skimp where they can and expect that workers will just “get” the systems that their working with. Improving your it management system and giving your employees extensive training could be the answer to getting the work done more efficiently. Employees are usually afraid to ask for help because they might be viewed as incompetent, but sitting all of your employees down and going through the operating systems can be helpful and improving their navigation skills. Doing this could show them ways to improve their techniques that they might not have been aware of.

There are dozens of ways you can improve work performance and many are so basic that they don’t need mentioning. Look for ways to take out any flaws in the system so you’re not giving anyone an excuse not to perform better.
